Ear infection

Ouuuchhhh!!…..Is your little one complaining of an earache? He or she may have an ear infection. An ear infection can mean an inner ear infection or an outer ear infection. Inner ear infections are very common in the winter months when your little one suffers a lot from colds and upper respiratory infections. An outer ear infection happens a lot in the summer months due to swimming. There are a few things that you can do to try to prevent an inner and outer ear infection. Inner ear infections can be prevented by frequently suctioning out your child’s nose using saline and a bulb suction or nose frida. Also if your child is of age, you can give children’s Benadryl or children’s Claritin to dry up the nasal secretions inside of your child’s nares. Outer ear infections, better known as swimmers ear, can be prevented by using swimming ear plugs during swimming or by using over the counter swimmer’s ear drops after swimming to dry out any remaining water inside of the ears. Although these are great preventative tips, your child needs to be seen by a healthcare professional if experiencing an earache to rule out an active ear infection.
